What New Media Isn't...
New Media is not limited to YouTube or MySpace.
Presentation 1: According to Tom DeFanti at a presentation on New Media and Marketing at the San Diego Asian Film Festival, 245,000 people are employed in the movie industry in California. The industry generates 17 billion dollars in revenue. We are talking about 250 movies a year. What does all this mean?
It means, first and foremost, that every effort will be made to preserve/expand this industry. It means that we have to understand the terms: Digital Media (a good source for updated information is CNET's Media 2.0 section...). and Photonic Networks. It also means that understanding what cinegrid.org does might be useful.
For a lively discussion of what's really at stake here (or if you are interested in the art and culture angle), click HERE in order to read about film critiques based on the San Diego Asian Film Festival 2007. To go into detail about film theory in the 21st century, click HERE.
